unread mail message won't clear

Under my windows logon it keeps saying I have one unread
mail message even though I don't. how can it be cleared.
please help.

Download and install TweakUI:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP (TweakUI)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, go to Start > Programs > PowerToys for Windows XP >
TweakUI. Expand "Logon" and uncheck "Show unread mail on Welcome screen".

Note: Unread message alerts may indicate you have unread messages not only
in Outlook Express, but Hotmail and/or MSN email accounts as well.

Thanks, I just bought this thing and am not sure about
downloading stuff. I probably will check with the place
I bought it from before i start downloading extra
programs. I thought that perhaps I could find a way to
do it with the original program. Thanks again
