Unread Mail contains Read Mail

My Unread Mail folder is identical to my Inbox. I deleted the folder and
re-established. Then I created a Custom Search Folder with the same
parameter: Mail not marked READ and got the same outcome.

Then I daresay that your Inbox messages are all marked unread. Try
explicitly marking one read and see what happens.
 
Tried that--read mail is clearly flagged.

Have you tried starting Outlook once with the /cleanviews command switch?
Have you tried a new mail profile?
 
Thanks, Brian. The "cleanviews" switch didn't change anything--but the new
profile has cleared up the problem.
