Unmountable boot volume

I have a 2 yr old laptop and I tried to use boot floppies, but it says
unmountable boot vol. I have no Idea, I also tried a win 2000 floppies same
thing. tried a win 98 disk and said was unable to format disk. I think must
be some fat32 HP bios thing. I checked my floppies for errors and
downloaded the xp pro orig and sp1 boot disk maker and still no luck. Any
Ideas would be nice Thanks

Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without their overlay
software which is not needed anyway.

Boot your computer with the 6 diskette boot set that matches your
Windows XP version.

When the computer has finished booting up from the diskettes and stops
at the A:\> prompt enter the following command:

CHKDSK /R

If that does not resolve the problem then post a reply back here
describing the results and please include the complete text of the
error message, including all 4 of the parameters.

Good luck
