I'm getting this error when trying to install xp to a freshly partitioned and
formatted drive.
Booting from the winxp disc setup begins and copies files. Right when the
"Welcome to setup"
screen should appear I get the stop error:

STOP:0x000000ED (0x8270E788,0xC0000010,0x00000000,0x00000000

Everything I've read says to use the recovery console to repair either HD
errors or the MBR

I can't get to the recovery console. I've run the WD diagnostics on the HD
and it passed with
no error's.

I've also disabled udma in the BIOS and checked that it was using an 80 pin
cable (it is).

I have tried 2 other HD as well a Maxtor and a Seagate, same result

Any ideas ??

Did you ever find an answer to this? I am having the exact same
problem.

Thanks, Bob

Is the drive an SATA? I have encountered the same problem. I hit F6 to load
the driver and the install blue screens at the same point. I talked with MS
level 2 support and the motherboard manufacture. no one has an answer. I
have tried different MB and HD and still unable to install xp.

The other HDs did not resolve the problem? - Seems to me problem related to
1. connections on HD or controller 2. "Shot" controller 3. Most likely
suspect - BIOS.

Did you try the "fail safe" BIOS settings?
