Unmatched files

I have a problem with unmatched files. Everytime I publish changes to a
website, unmatched files occur. They do not clear if I just click on the
Synchronize with Web. I have to highligh each individually, right click,
then click on Synchronize with Web. The unmatched arrows will then clear as
if synchronization has occurred. But next time I publish a change, the same
unmatched files appear. Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the unmatched
permanently?

I have the same problem too. It is always with .jpg and .gif files. Any
thoughts, help, or advise? I've already made sure all my files are in
lowercase letters.

Thanks for your input, Allison...Some of mine are actual web pages although
most are .jpg's. I hope someone can come up with a solution. I have read
hundreds of pages in FrontPage help and nothing explains why this happens or
how to fix it. Same with the info on the FrontPage Internet help...our
organization can't afford the Support fees to get email answers...$99 is a
bit much!

As long as the content is updated when you publish, then why be overly concerned with the unmatched
status?

Only because I want it right. It bugs me and also makes me wonder if
something is amiss. And besides that, it would make it easier to find the
pages that really do need to be published without sorting through piles of
"unmatched" files.

If you use the Change Page only Option then any page / file that has been changed will be published
automatically as long as the change was made from within FP. Publishing individual pages may be the
cause of having unmatched files, since only the actual file is uploaded and no meta data is updated
regarding the current status of the file.

I often use the Publish Canged Pages option. And still the majority of
images remain "unmatched". I only publish individual pages when I don't
feel like waiting for FrontPage to republish all the unmatched files,
becuase when done I only find that they still remain unmatched. Which is
part of the reason I would like to figure out how to fix this unmatched file
thing.

Any other ideas?

Do a full publish of the web to get it back in synch. From there on out, do
"changed pages only" when you publish.

Sorry, but that didn't do it either. What else can I do? Since most images
remain unmatched I don't want to use "publish changed pages" 'cause then,
every time, all the images have to be re-published. Unfortunately I only
have access to dial up service in my area, so transferring images is slow
go. I'd really like to fix the problem with the unmatched images so I can
use the transfer feature properly. I just tried "synchronize" and that
didn't do it either.

Maybe I got it - the author of the images on the web site on my hard drive
says one thing and the author on the (what do you call it?) on-line web site
says another. Could that be the problem??? I'm gonna see if I can get the
authors to match......

Well - I wish I wouldn't have posted that last comment. I was wrong.
First, I couldn't figure out how to change the author. And secondly, the
few images that are OK also have differnet authors so my theory is
inconsistent.

Waiting for the pro's,
Allison

Gosh, Allison, I'm glad you have been hanging in there! I haven't had a
chance to get back here since last week! But I see you still have the same
problem. I always use "Publish Changed Pages Only", but it takes long enough
for most of everything to be published. And I still get the Unmatched Files.

Like you, I find it frustrating, aggrevating, and unnecessary, so I wish I
could get it solved. But not enough that I'll spend $99 to solve it! :)-)

I'll let you know if I find out anything other than here!
