Unlocking Keyboard

When I start up my Windows XP computer, my keyboard will not work. If, after
the computer boots, I hold down the right shift key, I will - after about 30
seconds - hear a sound. After that sound, the keyboard will then function
until the next time I shut down the computer.

Are you just letting us know?

I guess I left out the question part of my post.

I want to know what I can do to fix this. The keyboard will not function
unless I do this right-shift-key thing and I don't like having to do it every
time I start up the computer.

What happens if you use a different keyboard? If the same problem happens
with a different keyboard but the same connection method (ps/2, USB),
switch to a different keyboard using the other connection method. What
happens then?

If this is a laptop, contact the laptop mftr.'s tech support for
repair/replacement.

Thanks for the response.

I am using a PS/2 keyboard. I tried another PS/2 and it didn't help.

Even if a USB keyboard helps, do you have any idea
(1) What caused this?
and
(2) Why the right-shift-key fixes (until a reboot) the problem?

No, there is no way for me to know what caused this. Answer The First
Question of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked
and the time they didn't?
and
(2) Why the right-shift-key fixes (until a reboot) the problem?

I have no idea. Try a USB keyboard. If that doesn't work, perhaps you have
some program running in the background that is interfering with your
keyboard. Special keyboard with drivers perhaps? Did you update the
drivers? If you didn't, go to the keyboard mftr.'s website and
download/install updated drivers. Some sort of keyboard macros program? I
don't know what you've got installed on your computer; only you know.

These are just guesses because you really haven't told us anything about
your computer or the answer to The First Question.
