unlock LiveUpdate Antivirus

I would like to use the Norton Antivirus LiveUpdate
feature (Symantec). The original Administrator locked out
this option. How do I unlock this, so I can use it? Is
there any reason not to use this feature, and stay with
the IntelligentUpdater: essentially manual downloads from
the Symantec site?

Any reason these newsgroups don't have a search feature by
subject?

You have to ask the admin to allow you the rights to run update.

Your admin may have the update run to a shared drive and at some time and
date with a script update all pc's that log in.

Perhaps I should have been a bit more clear. This machine
is my home machine now and I am now the administrator and
owner of this machine. How do I reset the settings so
that I can unlock this LiveUpdate Antivirus program, which
was locked by its previous administrator? How do I undo
the previous admin's locking?

Thanks, Joe

I cannot reinstall it. I don't have the original CD or
software package. I would think it would be some kind of
windows security permissions. Does anyone have any
further insight?

Thanks, Joe

Solution ... a Little late

Hi,

Found a workaround for this. You can update your anti-virues irrespective of it is locked or not.

Goto the installation folder for the antivirus normally wud be
"C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus"

There would be an exe file for live update identify it exactly. SOme thing like
VPDN_LU.exe and not the setup file.

Execute the exe, update is done.

Note: need to be connected to net ;-)

Blocked Symantec Live update: got it going! VPDN_LU.exe was the key. THanks!

Thanks Hanmanth! VPDN_LU.exe started the live update passing the block. Only in Mozilla is typing here a bit funny: It works only if you start button <Preview Post>!
