unlock computer notice

When I start my pc, whuich uses windows XP service pack 2, a box appears on
screen. It says:
unlock computer
this computer is in use and has been locked
only laurence or an administrator can unlock this computer.
There is then a username slot with my name in it, and an empty password
slot with a flashing cursor.I do not need a password, for all I have to do is
to click on 'ok', at the bottom of the box, and the computer lets me in. That
is because I am the sole user, and when I first had the pc I configured it
for a sole user, so that I didn't have to use a password.
But I still get this box on screen, and it means that if I switch the pc on
and walk away to give it time to boot up, I then have to click on ok, as I
just said, and wait to be let in. Can I get rid of the box?
Thanking in advance any one who can help.

A pc password can be edited in the BIOS,look in security tab for settings.Un-
plugging the power to the pc & removing the pc battery for 2-3 minutes, then
reinstalling battery, restart pc will also clear the password box. However this
resets the BIOS to its factory default, youre user adjustments would then need
to be re-entered...

He's not discussing a BIOS password but a windows password.

You don't state whether you are booting the PC from scratch or returning
from hibernation or sleep mode. In the latter two cases it is possible to
set the PC up so that it requires the entry of the user password before
giving admission (using the dialogue box that you describe). Look in (right
click on desktop), and select 'properties', 'Screen Saver' tab, 'Power'
button and then the 'Advanced' tab. the password prompt is one of the check
boxes.

Thanks for trying to help. No, what I want is to continue not needing a
password, since I am the sole user, and to get rid of the dialogue box, so
that I don't have to click on 'ok' in the box in order to be let in. What I
want is for the box not to appear after I start the pc. It is not needed,
because, as I said, I neither have nor need a password, and in the dialogue
box I do not need to enter a password but only to click on 'ok'. The box
appears when I return the pc from hibernation mode

Try going into the Power Options in your control panel, advanced tab.
Under options uncheck 'Prompt for password when computer resumes from
standby'. (You mentioned Hibernation mode, but this should work there too.)

To go directly to the Desktop when starting the computer:
Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

For the prompt for password there are two places that can be factors. Go to
Control Panel>Display>Screensaver and clear that box next to "require a
password on resume" (paraphrased). You will also see a button that will
take you to the Power settings, or you can go directly to the Power Options
applet in Control Panel. Look on all the tabs, including the hibernation
one, and clear any checkboxes that are similar to the screensavers one.

Then the instructions that I supplied should solve that problem. The dialog
box appears even if there is no password set.
