password request at startup

I am the sole user of my pc, which has XP/SP2. Because it takes a while to
boot up, I switch it on and then go away and come back. But always, if I've
used the 'shut down' power function the last time I turned it off, I come
back to find a password request box on screen. It says:

Log on to windows
user name [followed by my name]
password [with flashing cursor]
ok

There is no password, and all I have to do is to click on 'ok', and then the
start up process continues until complete.
How can i remove the password request box, so that there is no interruption
after I switch the computer on?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you recently added a wireless card to the computer by chance. This
process doen't just suddenly appear.

One other thing to check in addition to the suggestions you've already
rec'd...

Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced tab

Is the "Prompt for password..." box in the Options section checked? If so,
uncheck it.

thanks mick; I tried it and it works, except for the following:I use
hibernation mode quite a bit, but now that I've ticked 'welcome box' I find
that the pc has gone back to the default shut down option box, where you
choose between 'turn off', 'standby' and 'restart'. I've gone into control
panel and power options and I've clicked on 'hibernate', only to find that
the hibernate option is still enabled, as it was before I ticked the welcome
box. But it doesn't work now that I've ticked that box. To check cause and
effect I've unticked the welcome box and found that I'm back where I
started:The shut down dialogue box again has 'hibernate' as an option, which
is what I want, but when I use the 'shut down' option and then switch the pc
back on, I again get the password request.
So, ticking the welcome box has caused a return to the default shut down
options, but being able to use hibernate mode is more important to me than
being able to switch the pc on and walk away without having to come back and
click on 'ok' in the password request box.
Help!

Thanks for the reply, but no, I haven't added a wireless card and wouldn't
know how to. As regards pc and telephone, at least with the pc you get to
communicate with people, even if much of what's said is about the pc itself.

Hi Anna,
Thanks for the advice. Yes, I'd already unticked that box, but I still get a
password request when I turn the pc off in 'shut down' mode.

Hi,
Click Start >> Open Run Command and type in:
control userpasswords2 click [OK]
On the User accounts select your account and Uncheck this check box:
[ ] Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
Click [Apply] then [OK] and Reboot your machine, does it help?
If it doesn't can let us know you Computer specs and is it XP Home or XP pro?
Did you try System Restore to when things were okay?
