Unknown Node in Device Manager

B

Bob

I couldn't find the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers node in my Device Manger, but
I found a node labeled Unknown. When I expanded the Unknown node, I found
thefollowing:

Unknown
Intel(R) 82801DB Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 24CB
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel

So my questions are:
1. Why is it labeled Unknown instead of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers?
2. How do I fix it?

I was thinking about uninstalling the drivers for all three IDE/ATA
controllers to see if Windows would reinstall the drivers and create the
correctly-named Device Manager node for them. Does this sound like a good
idea, or is there a chance that I'll really screw things up by doing that?

Thanks,
-Bob

Look like you have a motherboard with Intel chipset. Install the INF driver
from the CD that came with your motherboard or download the latest driver
from the MB manufacturer.
