unknown hard erro

I took everything off of my hard drive and reformated the
disk to get ride of a virus and while trying to install
xp I get "Stop:c0000221 unkown hard
error\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll" In the knowledge
base it talks about a problem with an existing ntdll.dll
file? I can not have this file on a newly formated disk,
could I?

Any help would be great.

I tried the CHKDSK C: /R and got : The Command not recongnized. I don't want to fdisk this drive. I simply moved the Hard drive from one slot to another. Now it will not boot. I ran a checkdisk which found errors and repaired them, but now it will not boot I get unknown hard error message.
