How can I check now, as I loaded Live Mail from the website you mentioned?

Click on "help" on the main window tool bar.
Click on "about Microsoft Windows Live Mail"

That should present you with a window that shows the version.

Cool. On reading the post again I wasn't sure if I'd actually missed the
point.
BTW... the Help/About thing works on virtually all products that install on
Window, so use it if you ever need to check any version number.

Dear Julian,
Thanks. I know now where to look for help. However, I could not find how I
also can transfer the directory. Please assist.

If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both
copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only
references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it.

Having just done this (then moved all the messages back to the right
places!) I've discovered they are now stored in a folder named
"...\Windows Mail\Local Folders (1)"

I'm much to anal to allow it to remain like this, how do I put them
back in "...\Windows Mail\Local Folders" - without a (1)?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
should be uninstalled.

The best thing to do is ignore them.

If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both
copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only
references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it.
First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no
instances of it under applications or processes.
Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search
Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files.
In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search
button.
It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail.
WinMail will work in the background and recover all of the messages that are
really there.

Although some people have said they lost all messages doing this, WinMail
should recover them in the Recovered Messages folders.

Using Windows Mail I encounter a problem as follows:
There are two incoming mails which can't be opened. At the attempt I get the
message "Unknown error" (in fact in German "Unbekannter Fehler"). I can't
delete those mails either. Again I get the same error message. How could I
possibly at least delete those mails?

Sorry, I am not able to start WMUtil to repair database. the mail program is
closes, but there ist no way to klick to the buttom: Repair Database.

I restarted the computer, but this did not work either. My outbox is
blocked, I cannot sent mails anymore. So I really need help, desperately.

Hi,

I also have the problem that I just CANNOT delete that message. And the
problem is that it's stuck in my OUTBOX. This means that currently I cannot
send messages because Windows mail wouldn't let me send out any e-mails from
the Outbox!

What can I do?! HELP!

Many thanks,
John

Did you read any of the responses that have been posted here?

Microsoft has issued a fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a
computer that is running Windows Vista"

That page offers two download options. Unless you know for sure
you have 64-bit Vista, use the 32-bit option.

If you are using f.e. a Lap Top with Toshiba Prgamm, delet the Toshiba SMS
Programm from the Harddisk

Download and install this fix, with Window Mail closed:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for messages stuck in the Outbox, it also works
in other folders.

If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version,
try the 32-bit version first.

Note that many common antivirus programs, such as most of those from
Norton and McAfee, can make this problem come back, although seldom
immediately. If so, installing the fix again usually works again.

Datenbank alle 1 Mal beim Herunterfahren komprimieren (1 einstellen)
