I have created a Universal Distribution group - which contains a global
Security group from each domain (2 domains in forest).

When sending mail to the Universal Distribution group - nobody is receiving
mail??

Help??

Allison,

First of all, Universal Groups are only available in
WIN2000 Native Mode.

The problem is that you have made two Global Security
Groups a member of the Universal Distribution Group. Are
the two Global Security Groups mail-enabled? I am
guessing not! Take a look at that and let us know.

Another big part of Universal Groups is a Global Catalog
Server. If a Global Catalog Server is not avialable then
you will have issues with Universal Groups.

A bit of history...

Windows 2000 Native Forest containing 2 domains. Each domain contains 2
domain controllers with one GC configured in each domain.

I have a bunch of Global Security groups (in each domain) for each
department used to assign permissions on the file server. It has come about
that we would like to be able to mail-enable some of these groups. I did
that. When I send a message to the mail enabled global security group...
sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If - when the message is sent
to a Domain A mail-enabled global group - AND the groups membership is
enumerated from a Global Catalog in Domain B - no good. The Global Catalog
does not hold the individual members of Global Groups - only Universal - and
it would be my assumption that the GC doesn't enumerate Domain Locals
either.

I changed the scope from Global to Universal. That would work just fine
however those Global Groups are members of other global Groups... and since
Universal groups cannot be members of Global groups I can't change their
scope.

ok... another solution MAYBE...

Create a Universal Distribution group and add the non-mailenabled global
security groups to it.... NOPE!!!

Won't enumerate the global group membership!!!! AGGHHHH!!!!!! - Are you
saying that if the global groups were all mail-enabled as well then add them
to the Universal Distribution Group?? I shall try it right now.

I keep reading that Universal groups regardless of type should only contain
other groups not users (replication issues etc). So FINE... have a global
security group - ENUMERATE THAT!!! or don't!

THOUGHTS??
If you require more info ... let me know!! I sure hope you can help.

I mail-enabled the Global Security group (which I am a member of) - made it
a member of the the Universal Distribution group. I sent a message to the
Universal Distribution group - mail did not get sent.

Bummer!
