United States International Keyboard problem

Hello,

I have an american laptop and I've been using it in Portugal, so I added a
new input language (Portuguese (PT)) with the Keyboard Layout United States
International.
This has been working just fine until yesterday, when I noticed some of the
keys were not created anymore:
- I can't get ê, û, î, ô or â. If I press shift-6, I get immediately two
carets ^^
- I can't get the capital letter ÉÃÈÀ. If I press apostrophe-shift-e I only
get the normal E, or what ever vowel I want to accent

Can you help me? Thanks in advance

Double check... Two things that I personally do? I put the icon in the
taskbar for the Keyboard Layout and I try to remember to make the way to
switch languages as diverse as possible meaning that I shouldn't strike the
series of keys by accident. Another option is when I've been using more than
one language input it's been known to be flakey here for me so often times,
I know it's not the best solution, if I can just get away with the U.S.
International layout that's what I'll use. So long as I can keystroke to get
the character I need then that's generally "good enough" compared to having
to try to remember the alt + number commands.

Thanks for the quick reply. Even if I select only one languge with us-int
keyboard it doesn't work. If I press the caret, I get two, while before the
system would wait for another key to either create an accent vowel or write
the caret plus the other key.

I'm down to just two things to check... In the advanced tab is it set to
extend support to all programs? If so then it should be. You can try pulling
the language out (make a new default language) and remove the U.S.
International Layout and then setting it up again.

Just a quick question - mostly curiosity more than really helping
anything... Do any of the other options like apostrophe shift + e = É or
holding ctrl + alt + letter = üúíóö for example?

Ok, this fixed it. Some how I must have unchecked this box. I wont forget
the "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" rule again. Thank you very much!

Yes, it was always working, but I don't find them as convinient as the other
key combinations

Hello,

I'm having the same problem as Pedro Vaz was, but his solution -- to
activate support for all programs did not work.

All accented characters work fine, except those with the carat. When I type
this key, rather than responding as a "dead" key, waiting for the next input,
I immediately get 2 carats: ^^

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the language and the keyboard
settings. I tried to use a different keyboard, all with the same result.
Any suggestions?

No help, just commiseration, Chris. Did you ever find a fix? I''ve (perfect
example of problem) tried everything and about a half dozen
anti-virus/spam/malware programs!
