Uninstalling Windows XP Home Edition Full Version

I have the Full version of Windows XP Home Edition, and I am having trouble
with some of my older programs (Compton's programs that are not Windows XP
compatible), installing them. How do I uninstall this full version of
Windows XP Home Edition and go back to my win 98 se (upgraded from win 95)
and then upgrade to win xp home edition upgrade??

There is no need to install Win98 in order to install a WinXP
upgrade - in fact you would end up with an inferior installation.
Do this instead:

1. Boot the machine with your WinXP upgrade CD.
2. Allow it to format the disk. You will, of course, lose all data.
3. When prompted, insert the Win98 CD. You need it to
demonstrate that you qualify for the upgrade.

There is no way to "go back" unless you chose to save your old installation
when you did the original install of XP. If you didn't save the old files,
the only way to go back to 98 is to format the drive and do a clean install
of 98.

And then you'd be in the same place you're in now -- with XP installed.
You're going to spend a lot of time and frustration, and you'll be right
back where you started from.

thanks for the quick response, but, I need to show that I am upgrading from
Windows 95 also (my win98se is an upgrade). I went to Disk Management, but,
couldn't figure out how to partition, etc. in there...........

What happens if you carry out Steps 1..3 as per my first reply?

Nothing happens! If I try to boot from my Windows XP upgrade cd (I changed
the BIOS), the computer boots to the desktop and does everything the same,
when I go to My Computer and click on the cd drive, the Windows XP screen
comes up, but, it says "the version on the computer is newer, etc. etc.". If
I boot the computer with my Windows 98 upgrade cd, it just goes to the
desktop, click on the drive and it says "insert win98 cd". argh!

It seems that you are unable to boot the machine from a CD - any CD!
There are a few ways to resolve this problem:
- Download a set of boot disks from here:

- Take your machine to your computer dealer to fix the CD boot problem.

It's then back to Steps 1..3!
