Uninstalling StuffIt for PC leaves no way to Windows-zip folders

I run Windowns XP Pro w/ Service Pack 2. I installed StuffIt because I have
to decompress Mac files. But I prefer Windows zip accessed by File>New>New
Zipped File (or some similar wording). Ever since, I cannot use Windows to
zip. I uninstalled StuffIt, but no good: this file handling capability was
apparently removed by the StuffIt installation. Can anyone help?

We really need more information. Does it give you an option to browse for a
program to handle the file?
Also, you could reinstall your zip program.

When you installed StuffIt, and because StuffIt appears to be an
unfriendly or uncooperative archiving program (i.e., it yanks away
control from other archiving tools or it wasn't developed to support the
OS platform that includes such support), the install program wrested all
archiving functions away unto itself. That means the built-in zip
control that was in Windows XP got axed by Stuffit, so uninstalling
Stuffit doesn't give back that prior support (too many programs are like
this as developers are mostly focused on the install rather than figure
out how to restore after an uninstall).

You might be able to restore Window XP's built in zip support by
reregistering the control that is used for it. At a DOS command, enter
the following:

regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

You may need to navigate to the Windows\System32 folder where is the
file.

Windows has a built in "ZIP" program. Compress-folders can be installed
from the CD.

I use no third party file compression program - but on my right click menu
it has on the "send to" menu "Send to compressed (zipped) folder".
