Uninstalled programs, still listed

How do I update/purge the list of installed programs that
is displayed when using "Add/Remove programs".
On my XP's pc some Java versions still listed eventhought
I use the remove option

You need to delete the appropriate registry key in the
following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> WINDOWS ->
CURRENT VERSION -> UNINSTALL

You'll have to look around for the right key from here.
