Uninstall XP Professional

Tony Smith

I would like to uninstall XP Professional and use what
came on my laptop which was XP Home. The problem is that
the XP professional was installed by my brother-n-law
from his disc so I cannot use his product key or my
original product key to activate windows during their
grace period and so I cannot use my computer at all. How
do I uninstall Pro and keep all my records the same and
go back to using XP home.

You can't downgrade from XP Pro to Home. You will have to format and
install XP Home if you wish to make that change.

Greetings --

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to format
the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Of course, you'll want to back up any important data before
starting.
