You can't uninstall Vista once you have installed it. If you need to return
to XP, you will have to reinstall it, which requires a clean installation.

Hi,

Uninstall? No, you'd have to format and do a clean install of XP Pro (which
cannot be upgraded to Home Basic in the first place).

Just install XP via the CD or restore discs.
Remember to backup your personal data.

Excuse me but I did have the Windows XP Pro and did upgrade to the Vista Home
Basic. I did have to buy a Graphics Card, a 1GB, DVD Drive. I also did the
clean installment before doing the upgrade. I must say I liked the Windows
Vista Home Basic, I just wanted to know if it was possible to go back to the
Pro.

Yes, it was installed as an upgrade on the XP Pro.Thank you Rock for the
information.

You're welcome.

Hi,

From XP Pro, you can't do a direct upgrade to Home Basic but you can use the
custom install option (this is not an upgrade but an install to a new
folder). Unfortunately, unlike earlier upgrades in the Win9x line, there is
no longer any uninstall option. There are many technical reasons for this,
but suffice it to say that the option no longer exists. To go back to XP Pro
will require not just a format/clean install, but a rebuild of the
installation volume or partition due to the changes made by Vista to the one
that previously housed XP. The NTFS file format used in Vista is slightly
different than that used by XP, and XP setup will not be able to install to
it, though it can read it in a dual boot scenario.
