I have recently installed microsoft office 97 professional edition and now I
am having problems uninstalling this program from my computer, Windows XP
Media Center Edition, I do have the disk I installed the program with. When
program was installed, it only installed Word & Excel. But not that I dont
want office 97 on my computer,(found it was making it running slower) I cant
seem to uninstall it. The error message that came up was "The Setup
configuration file 'C:\PROGA~1\MICROS~\SETUP\Off97Pro.STF' is missing or
corrupted."
what does this mean?
What can I do to fix this or just remove progam?
Anybody with any suggestions?

Insert the Office disk in your Optical drive. When the Setup autoplays
there should be choice to remove Office 97.

I didn't think you had that options from MS Office 97 Professional CD,
change yes. Maybe you mean change & then deselect the installed applications

Yep,97 is like that, no CD, no uninstaller.

However, it shouldn't slow your computer. Run msconfig and look for unneeded
startup entries. In particular, Quick Find, which is an enormous resource
hog.

Ian,

You should also explain to the OP that MSCONFIG can quite easily kill your
computer if you aren't careful.

Why would this have anything to do with a missing or corruot SRF file? None
whatsoever.

Newbie Coder, I tried that site, it didnt help me much, the program is still
there and the "Setup Initialization Error"
'C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\OFFICE\SETUP\Off97Pro.STF' is still there.

Ok, i found out that the program wasnt installed properly to begin with,
would that have something to do with this "Setup Initialization Error"?
