Jim

I have obviously acquired a malicious virus that has
changed my home page, and will not allow me to rechange it
in my Internet Options box. It redirects my browser to its
own nasty sites. It generates ugly shortcuts onto my
desktop. When I right-click on these desktop icons they
point to my Iexplore.exe as the target file. The pop-ups
are coming anytime my computer is on, even when I am not
using the internet. I cannot download the new security
patch from the IExplore site, even using my Netscapebrowser.

I have come to the conclusion that I must either uninstall
the Iexplore.exe, or re-format the whole hard drive. I
cannot for the life of me figure out how to uninstall IE.

Can anybody tell me what to do -- anybody know how to
uninstall IE?

Jim,
You've picked up parasites/spyware.

Download and run Run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
CWShredder is only about 125 KB so it could be downloaded from another
machine onto a floppy disk if necessary.

Then download, install, *update* and run both of these programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items listed in red-others are
optional.)
Both programs should be updated after installation- before use.

If these programs don't remove the malware, HijackThis should be used to
post a log to the appropriate forum at one of these sites.
