uninstall and compatibility mode

On my Win XP Home notebook I tried to install a software called "e/" (an
italian software), but as soon as the install began a message appeared
stating that the software works only with Windows 2000 or XP Pro. Since I
needed that software I tried to force the install running the setup in
compatibility mode with Windows 2000 (I did it with Epson printer software
and it worked). Unfortunately, in this case it didn't work and the install
crashed. This setup also install Crystal Reports 9 (this crashed too).
Now on my notebook I have a folder called "e" under "C:\Program Files" with
some files inside, that is the program folder. Then I have a folder called
"Crystal Decisions" under "C:\Program Files\Common Files". Then I have the
following "programs" in the Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs list: "e/
Crystal Reports" and "e/Pre-installation". I tried to uninstall from there
but I get the same message that appeared when I tried to install, that is,
the software works only with Windows 2000 or XP Pro. I think there are also
many entries in the registry and there may be other files or folders
somewhere else. There is no program folder in the Start Menu, so I cannot try
to uninstall from there. How can I clean up everything? Please HELP!
Thanks,
ZDLR

Sounds to me that you're going to have to manually weed all of it's stuff out
your hard drive and registry (don't forget to back them up first!).

Another option is to use the last freeware version of TotalUninstall to
monitor another installation attempt. Then use it's log to track down all
the entries and files so that you can eliminate them.

Finally, if you can locate the Uninstaller executable you can try to run
that in compatibility mode.

I thought that locating the executables was a good idea (at leas I can try).
But I didn't know about TotalUninstall. It sounds very useful. Where can I
find it?
Thanks again,

You might want to contact the tech support for the program vendor. They
might have manual uninstall instructions.
Without that the only other option is to delete the program folders and
remove the program entries in the registry. Without knowing what specific
entries were made this can be tricky. Better yet, after deleting the
program folders do a system restore to a date before you did the install.
That would restore the registry to it's condition prior to the install.
