Unformatted Basic Disk

I have a problem with a secondary disk on my system. Last week I had a video
card go bad and after replacing the card and restarting Windows XP Pro SP_2
I find that my drive 1 which was a Dynamic Disk Drive (F:), formatted NTFS,
now shows up as an unformatted volume, Basic Drive (F:) within Windows
Explorer and Disk Management. I have about 90 GB of data on this drive that I
cannot afford to lose. Nothing was written or read from the drive during the
down time. Each time I try a read from the drive WinXP asks me to format the
drive. I guess my question is this: How can I manipulate this drive to
recover the data? I realize there are low level disk editor tools available
to facilitate this but I am leary to continue for fear of losing the data
without a backup image available.

Thank you

Hi,

Rule #1: If you can't afford to lose it, you should make a backup.

However, it's obviously too late for that now. Try mbrwork from
terabyteunlimited.com or testdisk from cgsecurity to recover the lost
volume.
