Uneccessary step in Outlook- How do I get rid of it

When I open Outlook I also next have to click on "Send & receive" to
get my new messages, how do I get rid of this step, in Outlook Express
however as soon as you open it , it also downloads messages and puts
the in Outlook Express. Bob

Assuming that you are using Outlook 2002 or 2003, go to your send/receive
group and verify that it is configured to check for mail every "XX" minutes.
Quick way to the send/receive group is CTRL + ALT + S.
