Accidentally made WMP my default media player (on XP) and would like to
undo this, how? Also, how do I remake WinAmp my default player? Thanks,
Adam

Right-click on any file of a type you want to play with WinAmp,
and click "Open with." Then click "Choose program." Select WinAmp
from the list and click "Always use this program..."

Repeat for all other file types you want to play with WinAmp.

Load WMP, go to Tools - Options - FileTypes and uncheck the ones where
you do not want WMP as default. OK out. Run WinAmp and in Options -
Preferences - File Types check the ones you want to use it for

On subject of WMP, how does one disable it from checking for new updates?
I only see check every day, every week & every month; couldn't get rid
of the "checks".

It is giving me errors on the event log as I have disabled the "remote
access connection" where apps can make a connection to a remote site
magically.

I have not found a way. But with a broadband connection it is not
particularly annoying on once a month
