undesireable font change in Equation

I'm running Office 2007 with the Windows 7 RC, both genuine and fully updated.

I am following up a "List Paragraph" style with an equation. The font in
the paragraph is Cambria (Headings). I have my cursor at the end of the line
and click on the Equation button in the ribbon. The font is then reported to
change to just "Cambria" (note: NOT Cambria Math). As soon as I start typing
in the "Type equation here box," it displays boxes instead of letters and the
font mysteriously changed to "MS Mincho."

I did a little research and just checked my Office features installed and
the Japanese font option under International Support in the installation is
disabled with a big red "X" through it. I also tried deleting the font
manually but it says it was protected.

Now, when I am on a "Normal" paragraph and click the Equation tool, it works
as it should, but what is going on with the transition from Cambria
(Headings) to MS Mincho?? I checked the dialog under Equation Tools in the
ribbon and the default is definitely set to Cambria Math where it should be.

If anyone has any ideas how to fix this, I'd appreciate it. It's quite a
nuisance.

This issue is persisting. I'd even be relieved to hear that someone else
has this problem, if not hear of a possible solution.
