Undeleteable Folder/Pages in Remote Web Site

I have a number of folders/pages that have been published from local to
remote and later have been deleted from local but absolutely refuse to be
deleted from remote. How can I get rid of them?
 
Are the folders on remote empty. You need to delete all files from the folder
before you delete the folder itself
 
Recalculate hyperlinks in the local web, and then publish and select "Publish all"
