Uncommanded log on

I have Outlook 2002 with sp3.
I have found that if my in-box contains messages which themselves contain
links (hyperlinks) to web addresses, then Outlook causes an uncommanded log
on to the Internet (my Home Page) when it is started. If there are no links
in the in-box messages, then there is no uncommanded logon. This occurs
whether the messages have been opened or not.
Can the uncommanded log on be prevented
