Stop Uncommanded log on to Internet

I have found that if my in-box contains messages which themselves contain
links to web addresses, then Outlook causes an uncommanded log on to the
Internet when it is started . If there are no links in the in-box messages,
then there is no uncommanded logon. This occurs whether the messages have
been opened or not.
Can the uncommanded log on be prevented?

What version of Outlook are we talking about and how did you verify your
issue?

I have Outlook 2002 with sp3.
The issue is not verifyable as such - it just happens. If any of the e-mails
in the In box contains a hyperlink to a web address, then when Outlook is
opened it causes an uncommanded log on to the net. If none of the e-mails in
the in box contain a hyperlink, then Outlook opens normally without causing a
log on to the net.
