Unable to view ANY .pdf files online IE 6.0

Using IE 6.0.2800 and Adobe Reader 6.0 I get have the
following problem:
Internet Explorer Opens a Blank Page with a Placeholder
Icon Instead of a .pdf File in Adobe Acrobat Reader
with ANY >pdf file on ALL wesites. Checked the MS
Knowledge base and it says it is a website problem,
however never had the problem until I "updated" with SP1.
Checked my file association and that setting is correct.
I think it must be some setting within Explorer, and
advice???? Thanks

If it is only .pdf files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303401

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.pdf

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
The key does not normally exist.

You may have already seen this explanation but, according
to Microsoft, this is due to the uniform resourse
identifier (URI) not ending in ".pdf". Previous versions
of IE may have opened these even without them ending
in ".pdf". (My problem only occurred when I updated to IE6
SP1). A work around is to right click the pdf file and
Save Target As. Once you have saved the file it can be
opened in Adaboe Acrobat Reader. Microsoft say that the
problem can be resolved by contacting the website authors
or administarators, and getting them to send both a
content-type header (MIME type)of "application/pdf"
for .pdf files and an appropriate content-lengthe header.
(For information on doing this, consult the documentation
for the Web server that is in use). THOSE ARE ALL
MICROSOFT'S WORDS, NOT MINE! I've emailed Microsoft to say
they have caused this problem and that it is not feasible
to contact EVERY web author but they haven't replied. I
have to continue to use the work around! Sorry this is
long-winded but I hope it helps a bit.

Graham.
