Unable to use mail from iexplore

Emachine 1.6Ghtz pentium 40 gbyte hard disk running xp home
On Ixplore ckickimg on mail gives a drop down box: Read Maile / new message / send a link / send page / read news. when clicking on read mail boc disapears, on outlook express.
used start/control panel/internet connections/programs
box shows HTML notepad
Email blank space ( I need to put Outlook express in here )
Newscroup Outlook express
Internet call NetMeeting
Calender blank space
Contact Address Book
I am unable to alter any of these
Outlook express 6 when used from desktop comes up on screen with a dialogue box :Outlook express is not currently your default mail client would you like to make it your default mail client boxes Yes / No click on yes box disapears.
I recently deleted Office 97 from my computor I think this has given me the problem
after which my email acct disapeared and I had to contact ntl to re-instate it
How do I input Output Express into the Email box. jim

Click Start, Run and type the following commands one by one:
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /REG
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll"

This restores Outlook Express under the email clients list.
