Unable to Update XP

I've been trying to get updates for XP home edition, but eveytime I use the
website update all I get is a message saying I need to install an ActiveX
control, but no info bar shows up so I can install it. I can't install the
updates nor the ActiveX controll.

If it wasn't for my firewalls and antivirus, I would fell like I'm surfing
without any security. I even went so far as to disable my firewall (Zone
Alarm Pro), but to no avail.

If I can't get these updates ASAP, I might as well go back to 98SE. How can
I get the updates if I can't even get the ActiveX?

Did you ever check the settings for the Internet security zone to see if you
disabled ActiveX?

I did and it is on. I even made Microsoft's update site a trusted site.

There's another possible issue/reason: When I select the "Windows update"
selection from the "Tools" menu, I get an error from the site saying I need
to be an admin. I find that odd since I am the only user and the admin (I
even checked via the User Accounts in the Control Pannel).

This is serious. I need to get updated, especially since hearing about
rootkits.
