Unable to Turn Off

I have Win XP Home SP2. Worked fine. Tonight, tried to turn off computer,
but it would not... Used Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off - nothing
happens. Tried to Restart - nothing happens. Tried Windows Task Manager -
nothing happens...
Any ideas what's going on?

Hold power on button for at least 4 seconds. (A reboot may cure the
problem). Post back if still fails. But, do a disk clean first.

Dee,
thanks for your suggestion. As I mentioned in my original post, I tried all
the general tricks in my book to no avail... I didn't want to use the Power
button... Then I started to close programs in the Notification area, one by
one. Apparently, one or two of them would not stop as they should... Anyway,
I got to the point when Windows was able to restart and then shut down. This
morning, everything is normal.
