Unable to sync time

G

Guest

Hello,

I have been unable to use the internet time synchronization feature in
Windows XP since getting my PC last October ("Internet Time" tab on the Date
and Time Properties window). Whenever I click "Update Now", I receive the
message:

"An error occurred getting the status of the last synchronization. The RPC
server is unavailable"

I have disabled my firewalls and see the same message. I am using a 3rd
party program now to manually sync my clock.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!

Try another time server.

A list of the Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) time servers that are available on the
Internet
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262680

Just type in the combo listbox.
No registry editing.

Hi,

tock.cs.unlv.edu worked for me. Do you know if there is a way to get rid of
the old entries?

I've answered a similar question elsewhere.
This timeserver is a good'un, use it
132.163.4.102

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I receive the exact same message when
using the IP you provided.

Thanks for the tip. I have tried every server on that site and receive the
same message. It would seem to me that there is something wrong in my
settings but I just don't know where to go.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Well, change the time server to that one, it works 100%.

I am not sure I explained the result properly. I DID try the server you
provided and I am still receiving the same error. I think the problem is
within Windows... not the servers themselves. However, I am not sure what
needs to be enabled/disabled. I do appreciate your input though. It is not
life altering, but annoying that this feature is just not working for me.

Check and/or lower your security settings, use Microsoft firewall and try
tock.usno.navy.mil. What is your location? US Europe???

Looks like you're going to have to do some research here -
