unable to start Outlook 2003 post-installation

have installed office 2003 with all the components. all applications, other
than Outlook 2003 are operational and functional. but Outlook 2003 is
starting up. it returns an error "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook.
MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been caused by
installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook".

have reinstalled (all and also partial), followed what one helpful soul on
this forum has suggested (unintsaliing office 2003, removing all temporary
files and rebooting), but without success.

can anyone help me ? just to make things clear, the o/s installed on my PC
are windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition.

Thanks, in advance, for all your help.

I did install Office 2007 Standard Trial, but had since removed that and
installed Office 2003. Currently, the PC does not have any installation of
Office Trial
