Unable to send emails with aircard

Hi, I have the Sierra 881U aircard thru AT&T. My isp is Bellsouth. I am
running Vista Home Premium, SP1 on a Acer 5920G laptop and using Outlook
2007. When I am home, I am able to send/receive no problems. At home I use
the built in WiFi to connect. Away from home, when using the aircard,
internet connectivity is fine, and I am able to receive emails, just not able
to send.

This is the error that I get: "The connection to the server was interrupted.
If this problem continues..."

Are you using the SMTP (sending) server supplied by your wireless provider?
I would expect that error if you are not. I have a Windows Mobile 5
smartphone through Alltel that I use with a personal ISP's IMAP email
system. I use my ISP's receive server name in my account details, but I
have to use the sending server supplied by Alltel or I can't send. Check
with your Aircard wireless provider, they should have just such a server for
you.

Thanks Hal. I guess that is where the confusion begins. I believe my ISP is
Bellsouth, I have a cell phone from AT&T (which is also Bellsouth?), and I
just added the Sierra 881U (aircard) from AT&T. I spoke to someone at AT&T
and they told me it was an ISP issue. And of course Bellsouth says it is a
M$ issue. I will check the AT&T website and see if I can find an answer. I
will let you know how this gets resolved. Thanks!

No, it's an AT&T issue; they, like virtually ALL ISPs, will not allow you to
use an email sending server not connected to their network. They will
probably have a port 25 traffic block preventing you from contacting
Bellsouth's SMTP server and Bellsouth will probably not allow any traffic
from an IP address that isn't one of their own. So, you setup the account
to use Bellsouth's POP server to retrieve email and AT&T's SMTP server to
send it, just like I do with my smartphone and Alltel.
