Unable to see highlighted text when editing a PowerPoint 2003 text

I have a text box that has different lines of colored text. First line has
white text, next line down has yellow and the last line has blue text. The
slide itself is on a black background. When I try to edit the text box, some
of the text is hidden because it is the same color of the auto highlight
feature. The highlight color changes depending on what colors I use and where
I place them. This makes it very hard for me to make updates because I can
not see the text I need to change. Is there a way to turn off this auto
highlight feature? I did not have this problem with PowerPoint 2000.

That color changes in relation to the background color of the slide -- even
if you have a gradient background with distinct light and dark areas, there's
a background color specified in your active Color Scheme (PowerPoint 2003 and
earlier). You need a suitable background color that can agree with all text
colors. You do mention a black background -- maybe a dark grey one may work
better?

And if you must have a black background, you could insert a full slide black
shape, send it back and create a mock background.

This is not an ideal scenario, so you might need to experiment and see if it
works for you or not.

Thanks, that tip seems to be working. Instead of a true black background I am
using a lighter shade of black and the annoying highlight does not seem to
appear now. I guess this will work as a temporary fix , hopefully the slight
change in my presentation will not be noticed. It just looks like someone has
messed with the contrast and brightness of the projector.
