Unable to see Halo multiplayer games that I host

I am having a problem seeing games that I host in multiplayer Halo (Either dedicated or non-dedicated)

I had it all working fine until last night when I had a bunch of friends over for a lan party to play Halo. Well, mix some alcohol with group (quite a bit), and my IQ was reduced to that of a 3rd grader.

We started a game that had a curse word in it. Since then, I have been unable to see any games that I host. Who do I need to go groveling forgiveness to? I have truly seen the error of my ways...

Thanks in advance for your help

Sounds like your IP was banned from the Halo master server, try renewing it. If it's your cd-key you might have to get on your hands and knees and beg forgiveness. Listen uip kids, don't drink and play PC games!

lol...

Tried a different cd key (loaner copy to test theory). Still no luck. Even tried hosting from another source ip... still nothing. I am stumped.

Who do I need to beg forgiveness from? Does Gamespy control this or does MS

Thanks for the reply!

If it's GameSpy we are *all* in a heap of sorrow. You have to subscribe (pay)
to even install their current stuff that supports Halo. I cannot see my own
server now, and did nothing whatever to change things.
IF GS is banning my IP from showing in the Halo Multiplayer server list there
are going to be some problems. I can see it if they won't allow a non
subscriber to show in the GamSpy server lists, but there are going to be some
problems if MS has allowed GS to control the *IN GAME* server lists.

Yes, just got off the phone with an MS tech support guy. He's
escalating the case. Seems this is the very first trouble call of
this nature they've had, according to this guy. Nothing in the KB
at all.
What we did was prove that my server IS available TO be listed.
It isn't in the lists at all. He can and did connect direct to my IP.
I changed games to completely vanilla standard slayer, then to
one of my edited custom games.
We talked a while then about GameSpy and servers, and how
many other games (Q3 most notable) manage to broadcast a
beacon from listen/dedicated servers, no central 'master' server
is needed for clients to find internet servers.
As I mentioned, it's one thing for GameSpy to ban an IP from
their own inhouse 'master' servers. It's another matter
entirely for anyone other than MS themselves to ban IP's
from the games internal listings.
I have a feeling that GS was incorporated with not quite all
particulars brought before MS to take note of. Such as;
NO servers allowed unless subscribed to GameSpy, or
some other GameSpy rules. Which means that Microsoft
is going to have a bunch of very unhappy customers when
they learn of this double jeapordy situation.
GameSpy rules cannot be allowed to apply for those who do not
subscribe to their service nor even use their software at all.
Sincerely,
Michael S. McCollum

Wow... that is pretty low of Gamespy to do this. I hope that Microsoft 'nudges' them to their senses. Is there a ticket number / incident number or anything that we could follow up with Microsoft on to help pursue this?

Ray, that was a big fat *IF* in there about what GameSpy *might* be doing.
IT is being looked into by MS. I haven't got an answer back from GameSPy
yet after leaving them a message concerning this.

However, there don't seem to be any alternatives to their having done this.
I just have to wait and see.

Well, I did send an email requesting assistance from the Gamespy website. They autogenerated a reply email with the following:

ticket #129653 was assigned.

I'll reply here when I hear something more.

I am going to open a ticket with Microsoft as well.

The box says "Powered by GameSpy"
The box doesn't say anything about GameSpy subscriptions or controls etc. It
says Microsoft owns the game. Not GameSpy.
GameSpy doesn't "POWER" anything. They compile server listings.

I got to the bottom of my issue. Turns out that my ip was banned by Gamespy but it was 'fixed' when my DHCP assigned a new one to me after calling my isp

Additionally, my router had crapped out. I replaced it with a new one and it is functioning fine again. All I had to do was open ports 2302, 2303 and 2305 (dedicated server) and I was back in business...

I knew something was wrong with it when I could play again without the router and not get it to work even with the DMZ mode defined for the NAT'ed address

So far, both my dedicated and non-dedicated games have shown up on Gamespy. (for today at least

I will post the info that I got back from Gamespy that might be of some assistance to you.

Thanks Ray, they haven't replied to my email yet. Since talking with MS tech
support, I haven't heard anything from anyone.
