HALO and all the problems posted

I'm new around here and I am reading a lot of stuff about Halo and graphics
problems and poor performance.

Halo is a demanding game; you are running the minimum specs for the game and
are complaining about performance.

Anything under an AMD1600 and Geforce 4 Ti4200 or Intel and ATI equivalent
your asking for trouble. Even with what I have just said your not going to
be able to run the game as smooth as you can quake3 or Unreal because it's a
hard hitter on performance. If your running the MX card even though it's
supported you can not expect to have the eye candy. You get what you pay for
when it comes to graphics cards. If you pay $69 for the Geforce 4 mx
whatever then don't expect to run these games full blown graphic eye candy.
If you pay $400 for the ATI 9800 or the FX 5900 your going to be able to run
Halo full out and enjoy the game even if you do get a slow down when there
are a bunch of AI that your fighting it will only last a couple seconds and
then it's back to normal.

I run an AMD XP2200 and a Geforce 4 Ti4600 128mb and have had NO problems
what so ever with Halo.

All of you people that are complaining about the performance need to think
about your setup and get realistic about the expectations of your MX series
cards.

A TI series upper end ATI and FX card is what this game calls for to have
good performance. If you got anything less then that your not going to get
the performance so you should not expect it.

I saw a post where someone had a 3Dfx voodoo3 and was trying to run Halo.
Now please use common sense and think before you post a complaint about Halo
not running on the cheap cards.

Hmmm. I'm running Halo PC on a 3.2Ghz P4 w/HT, 1GB DDR 500, Geforce 4 Ti
4600 128MB, SB Audigy system and I have performance problems with Halo.
Hardly the minimum spec, wouldn't you say?

I finally got the game to run smoothly by lowering the resolution to 800 x
600, disableing v-sync and HW audio acceleration and using the "-use11"
pixel shader command line. I run it with all graphic options maxed. But
please, how can Gearbox claim Halo is "optimized for the PC" if I have to
run it in low-res, especially since the game does not support FSAA. I
haven't had to run any PC game in low res since my Pentium 133Mhz and a
crappy 4MB Voodoo 1 card!!! Not only that, but the mouse controls are
sluggish compared to all other first person shooters on the market.

Here's my biggest complaint of all. Yes, Halo PC uses more complex Pixel
Shaders than any other PC game on the market right now and it will cause a
performance hit on video cards that don't do DX9 in hardware. But guess
what? It doesn't look that good in doing so. In fact, even with Pixel Shader
2.0, Halo PC still looks like a 2 year-old console port with dated
graphics!!! I could justify purchasing a $400 video card if Halo were some
cutting edge game with mind blowing graphics that surpassed every other PC
game currently on the market, but it simply doesn't. Not even close. What a
joke!

Don't bother. I have nearly the same setup you have, except I have a
GeForceFX 5600 256MB RAM. This video card does support DirectX 9 in
hardware.

Halo still sucks.

Amazing when you consider this was ported from a system that uses a
750MHz/256MB, GeForce4 MX 440 equivalent system (XBox).

XBox still looks better....

However, I've used this game with a Albatron Ti4200p Turbo and it was smooth
with all the settings on or high at 1024x768. Now I've a FX5600 Ultra and
it's rubbish. Put the issues down to card not the game....

I have to agree, stop whining if you don't shell out. I,
however, have a Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz machine, 256 Mb RAM, a
128 MB GeForce FX 5200 and can't get more than 15fps on the
timedemo at 800x600 with everything on low or, if possible,
off. The graphics look horrible even when everything is
turned on, no reflections or transparencies, nothing looks
good at all.

At another machine, a AMD 1700XP with a Radeon 9700Pro
everything looks great, except there are NO TEXTURES.
Microsoft won't even tell me how to get the magic number
from this machine to make support requests. I'm back to
where I was when MS bought Bungie. Pure, Red, Seething,
Hot Loathing. Please, I just spent $50. Give me SOME NOD
AT SUPPORT. HELP ME.

Yes ALL MY FARKIN DRIVERS are up 2 date.

Hey! Stop baggin on my Voodoo 3!!!! That was a great card....:-D, not
no cheapss pos like the gf4 mx's. It was a true gamer's card in its
day! Not a budget one.

anyways, if you haven't figured out already, ur problem is probably
that you set ur texture preferences & Mipmap qualities on something
other than High Quality.
