With Halo 2's release on the horizon, I decided to reinstall Halo in order to
get myself 'prepared', and have already updated to v1.05. Since I last had
Halo installed, I installed SP2 and upgraded my video card FROM an nVidia
GeForce 2 mx TO an nVidia GeForce fx 5200. All my other system specs have
stayed the same:
- P4 1.7 GHz
- 512 MB RAM
- Windows XP Home
- 16x CD-ROM
- etc
Using the default settings Halo detected for my system, the performance on
the first level (having to escape from the Pillar of Autumn) were horrendous.
And forget about playing the level right after crash landing in the escape
pod. As soon as the first dropship flew over, my machine pretty much ground
to a halt. I tried dropping the resolution down to 800x600, with the
remainder of the settings either off or at their lowest setting. No change
.... the framerate was low with extremely choppy gameplay.
I keep finding issues with FSAA (full-screen anti-aliasing) with my
particular video card and that it should be turned off. Should turning this
off resolve my problems? Is there something else I should adjust with my
video card or otherwise? Has anyone else ran into this problem, and if so
resolved it?
Thanks in advance.
