Unable to remove watermark background

Added a watermark to a document with over 50 pages. Selected Remove
Watermark and it is still reflected in the document (both view and print).
 
If the document has more than one section (or more than one header/footer in
a single section), you may have to remove it from each one separately. The
easiest way to do this is to start with section 1 and View | Header and
Footer, select the watermark, and Delete. Click Show Next on the Header and
Footer toolbar, select the watermark, Delete. Repeat till they're all gone.
