Unable to remove old version of Sky broadband program to allow for

When I try to remove the Sky by broadband program to download the mandatory
new version I get "patch package could not be opened, verify patch package
exsists and access is possible or contact application vendor to verifythat
this is a valid Windows Installer patch package" message. Sky says it's a
Windows problem. I've run a check for Windows updates and don't need any.
Everything was fine until the new Sky program tried to install. Help please!

"Sky says it's a Windows problem"?
So they have seen this before?

Ask them *if* it is a Windows problem that they have seen before - what is
the solution?
After all - you pay them to connect up to their service and their
application won't install on your computer - which meets all of the system
requirements. If your system does meet all of their requirements - then it
*is* their problem.

Also - if you are saying you are having trouble using Add/Remove Programs
control panel to remove the application they had you install (I hate ISPs
that have required software in order to use their service, personally) -
then you may need to re-install the older version (just so it has all the
log and uninstall files) and then reboot and uninstall it. After that - you
can install the newer version..

Are you sure you *need* the software in order to connect to the high-speed
internet connection?
