can't remove Adobe -- patch package poblem

Windows XP Home. Trying to remove Adobe reader 7.0.5 but get message:

"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package
exists and that you can accesss it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package."

What do I do? Simple explanation please.

I've been to the site and tried to manually uninstall the reader, but get;
"The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists
and that you can access it, or contact ... vendor".

I can't find anywhere on the site to contact Adobe about Reader problems. I
visited forums but found nothing.
