Unable to reinstall Win XP Pro on laptop with AMD Athlon 64 bit

unable to reinstall Win XP Pro on HP Pavilion laptop with AMD Athlon 64 bit
processor.

happening, but none of the suggestions help me fix it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreiciated, this laptop has been down for
over 3 weeks. I was able to install ME and Win 98, but the XP Pro reinstall
dvd that came with the HP laptop gets stuck at the same place. I've tried all
I can think of.

Could be the media, can you try with a different DVD?

no, the DVD worked in my HP pavilion laptop. I did replace the DVD/cdrw
drive, and also used a new hdd thinking it was possibly the hard drive.
