Unable to promote Server to act as Backup Domain server

Dennis

Hi all,

I am currently having 2 servers, A and B, running Win2k
Server and Advance Server respectively.

Server B,running Win2k Advance server, has been setup
with Active directory and is the Domain Controller for
domain abc.com.sg

Server A, running Win2k Server, is able to login the
domain abc.comsg. I am trying to promote server A to
become the backup domain controller. However, the
operation failed and this is the error message:

quote:
----------------------------------------------------------
----------------------

Active Directory Installation Failed
The operation failed because:
Failing finding a suitable domain controller for the
domain abc.com.sg

"The specific domain either does not exist or could not
be contacted"

Check, recheck, double check and triple check that your
DNS is setup properly. In order to understand AD you must
understand DNS.

Please install the Windows 2000 support tools that are included on your
Windows 2000 server CD in the support\tools directory and run a "netdiag
/v" from a command prompt to see if there are any apparent network
connectivity or name resolution issues. Look specifically for the DNS
Test.............(pass or fail).

You could also run the MPSReports available at the link below which will
incluse a netdiag and dcdiag and see what errors are apparent.

Hope this helps!
