Unable to open Outlook 2002 (XP)

Leslie

When I try opening Outlook email I get the following
reply:
Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The .DLL
file for the information service could not be found. MAPI
was unable to load the information service PSTPRX.DLL.
Be sure the service is correctly installed and
configured.

I have re-installed Office XP and have checked my email
settings, NO LUCK:( Any suggestions?

Did you create the new profile from scratch (recommended) or did you simply
copy one of your old profiles (probably not good)?

You can try running Detect and Repair from the Help menu...make sure you
have your Office CD handy.

Ms. Fiorello,
I did have 2 profiles. I deleted both and created new
one but, I still get the same message:( I already have
Office SP3 installed. Do I need to edit the registry or
should I uninstall Office suite and re-install? GodSpeed.

Yes, I created new account with a different name. I
also ran Scanpst.exe on the mailbox.pst. When neither of
those worked I un-installed Office, rebooted and
installed from scratch. It opens the Outlook window now,
but I still get the same error message. I can't import
files, send or receive, and address book is empty:( What
else can I try without reformating HD? Geesh, everything
was fine before I upgraded Office 2000 to Off XP. Your
help is greatly appreciated. I can read my email online
at the website without going to Outlook if you want to
send me a reply there.

Sincerely,

Leslie

Hmm...unfortunately I'm kind of at the end of my expertise on this one. I
do know that repairing/reinstalling Office often leaves behind the exact
files and registry entries that cause problems like this.

You might want to repost your question and indicate that you have already
been to the MSKB article I sent you to, and that you have tried deleting and
recreating your mail profile from scratch as specified in the article, but
that you are still getting the error message. Perhaps another MVP or
someone who has run into the same issue will be able to help you further.
Sorry I wasn't able to solve this for you.

Hi Jocelyn

Thanks for the guidance that you provided to Leslie on Outlook. I deleted
the account that pointed to the Internet (as I use Outlook Express for my
default e-mail) and my problems went away.

Thanks so much.

Hope you have a great Christmas.

Kind regards

Bill Kearney in Oz
