Here is the scenario.
Using a PC with Win 2k to store files on a ethernet
network
Map a drive to the share through Network N'hood on a NT4
PC logged in as a user (not admin).
Try to open any file from the share by double clicking on
the filename from within explorer and I get 'Cannot find
the file \\win2000\design\filename.exe (or one of its
components). Make sure the path and filename are correct
and that all required libraries are available.' If I
open the application first, lets say its Excel, and then
go file open and open the file from the share, it works
fine.
If I log in as an administrator on the NT4 machine, map a
drive to the same share and try to open the same or any
other file from explorer it opens fine without the need
to open the application.
If I hold shift + control + right click on the file name
within explorer when logged in as a user, select open
with, and choose Excel, it opens fine. If I tick the
always use this application to open these files and try
to open another one from explorer, it still doesnt work.
If the file name doesn't have any spaces in it, although
it brings up the message stating 'Cannot find the file
etc' it does open the file in Excel. If there are spaces
then it doesnt open the file just a series of errors
showing 'cannot find etc and then each individual word of
the file name that is between a space'
If the files are moved to an NT4 server, there is no
issue.
The file extensions are all fine.
I am using Office 2000 on the NT4 workstations
Can anyone help.
