Unable to logon - very interesting problem.

Hi.

I have a very interesting problem. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate in a
Domain Environment (Member of a Windows 2003 Domain). I have no problem login
to my corporate domain while conected to company via LAN or Wireless. But
when out of office (such as home network or a place without any connection),
logon screen appears but i cannot see my domain account (only local account
appears) Even if i want to logon locally, nothing happpens. During logon
screen (Regardless of what i do) the system waits for 1-2 minutes and then
automatically restarts. And restart process is no BSOD-type immediate reboot,
screen fade-out slowly and then restarts.

After this kind of 2-3 reboots, my domain account finally shows up and i can
succesfully login (Using cached credentials i guess). Is there anyone have
this experience?What is the problem?

Thank you.

Hi,

I have the same problem here. 39 laptop on my network loaded with Vista
Business and every single one of them are having problems when they are not
connected to the domain. Password is not working, the computer restarts.
After trying 3 times, it finally works.

Hi,

Just found out that in the event log (Administrative Events) the process
that hangs;

Event ID 1015
Source: Wininit
A critical system process, c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe, failed with statud
code c0000005. The machine must now be restarded.

Do you have the same problem on your side?

Hi,

I have a piece of software called HP Credential Manager on my laptop. When
I turn it off, reboot the machine and try the sequence again this is was I
get: when I try to logon:

The local Session Manager Service failed the logon. The RPC Server is
unavailable.

After trying and rebooting 3 times, I finally get in.

Hi Jonathan,

I am using an HP Notebook too (HP Compaq NC8430) and also credential manager
is installed. Maybe that's the problem. I will uninstall that software and
see what happens. I'll keep you informed.

Thanks.

Hi Yasin,

On me side, the laptops are HP 6710b and I doubt that the problem is related
to the hardware or the software (credential manager). After disabling it,
the problem is still happening. I ran another test and maybe you can do it
to. Try booting the laptop without being connected to the domain and leave
it running. Vista should reboot by itself after a few minutes without you
doing anything on it. Keep me posted.
