Unable To Install Programs

I suddenly started getting the following message when trying to access my
Forms program which has been on my computer for months...
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Chose Close To Terminate the
Application.

In addition, I was trying to install a recipe/cooking program that states
right on the package that it is XP compatible. I could not install it and
got the above message.

We attempted to install both the Forms Program and the Cooking Program on my
husband's computer that is also XP and they installed no problem. The Forms
program is for our business so I really would like to get that function back.
Any help or suggestions deeply appreciated. Mary

Check the location of the AUTOEXEC.NT file. It may only be in
\windows\repair and need to be copied to \system32.
