Error Message When Trying to Install New Programs

R

RDambro

Recently, a problem has developed when I try to install a new program from a
CD. I get an error message that says: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.
The system file is not suitable fro running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose "close" to terminate the application." I have two disc
drives - the problem occurs with both. This only began a few months ago;
prior to that time, I had no problem installing from a disc. If possible,
please reply to (e-mail address removed) Thanks!

Please read this article from Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based
program
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324767/en-us

I recommend that you also run an antivirus program and antispyware software
to discard malware infestation (some malware overwrite Autoexec.nt file).
